Promotion 101: Why authors should not do book signings

book signings seem outdated nowadays. The good thing is an author I do not care. While book signings are slipping of existence, more creative options that emerge from the authors to promote each year. Many of them have taken on more books of a firm's sales for the author ever today. If you decide to embark on a tour or a signature, it is your decision. I would point out, But why it should not be discouraged if you do not bring book signings success they seek. Usually they do not and this is normal. book signings can be very disappointing. I described reasons not to do book signings, rather than reasons why you should. Options are also mentioned later that not only are they better sales-wise, but much more fun.

  1. If book sales signatures short
  2. Book signing to take a great effort set. Even if sold in a signature, which is very unlikely these days, these sales are short-lived and mostly forgotten. As an author is sold at a book signing bookstore is less than ten books. Some sell for less than five years. They say it's important for an author to build a relationship with people in the stores. Why? Not only workers with less than an author these days, unless you made a great impact not remember another author who signed in the store. If you make an impact that will be invited back. I've been invited back to the stores of times. But the myth that the authors of building relationships with shops making transfers is completely false. There is a return to the library staff in the building of a relationship is not even possible. Either way you're not there to make friends. You're there to sell books, and often does not happen.

  3. There is no guarantee that your book will remain at that location
  4. Some authors think that makes a firm that wants to place specific store that will keep your books in hand. This is not true. There have been many cases where the author had a successful firm, even signed, just not tending to order more copies of their books. I do not think his book will remain in place only because he a signature. This is not a guarantee.

  5. Large bookstores do absolutely nothing to market a signature
  6. So we're all signature excited huh? You have made all the arrangements and the publisher has prepared for you. You are expecting a huge turnout. You have promoted through your local radio station or newspaper. There was even a great contest on its website, introducing the event. You get to the store on Saturday to 14:00 to find that there anyone. Well, except the workers. What's happening? He asks. This is a great shame. Libraries do not promote the signature of more. They put their signature on a bulletin Store crummy that a sign bit of a pity that you could have done to yourself and that's it. You will find once again that you do all the work only to be disappointed.

The truth is that a firm has the participation of a library for its promotion. If they do not only shows their lack of appreciation for you as an author, but also shows that just do not care. The truth is that the big chains have grown cold heart rather than in terms of welcoming an author for a signature. Some places to help the author more than others, but as a wine cellar, large bookstores and not bothering to make authors feel welcome like the old. The alternative option is to sign on independent bookstores. independent bookstores tend to pull the red carpet when an author is making a signature. They like to convey to the readers to the store and in return you appreciate them for allowing you to sign. If you intend to do book signings at stores should focus smaller stores that at least show they appreciate their presence.

  7. Most of the time and not worth effort

Due to the lack of involvement with the stores or the lack of publicity from the publishers, he is often disappointed with the signature library. An author can only do so much. You can not force people to come and buy their books, no matter what you do. It's nothing more humiliating than being a sign only for people going on and they treat you as if your book is less important than those on the shelves. However, it happens. The authors do not have to endure this treatment just to sell books. Those days are over.

A new day has come and now, the authors have all the cards. We control how we promote our books and we want to sell. Now that I have explained Book signings do not worthwhile, then I have suggested some options and alternatives you can consider.

Festivals:

If you insist on doing book signings, go shopping in total. If you want to sell books and have fun, try to festivals. There are tons of festivals in almost all major cities targeted Meeting the authors of books and public sale. Festivals are much more rewarding, even if you only sell a few books, does not care because you walk with more. You get a chance to meet readers, authors, other professionals literature and media attending send you advertising. This in addition to greater exposure.

Transfer Group:

You can get both with friends author and host your own group of companies or participate in the signing group in your local bookstore. Many stores carry signatures of the group once a month and local authors are encouraged to participate. Transfer Group bring more readers to the event and give you the opportunity to meet other authors. Libraries encourage the signing of group more effectively than an individual author event. Also shame will not leave unless sell books. You may not sell in the signatures of the group, but end up with more exposure and friends in the industry.

Club Book signings:

Contact a local book club and see if they are interested in allowing you to make a signature in one of its forthcoming meetings. Make your book appeal for them to collect on a book below, let them know I'd be more than willing to do a signature in your meeting. Signature Book Club can be fun because they also become discussions and this ends up being a learning experience for the author, and the club.

Sign In their centers choice:

You can also choose a fun place of their choice to celebrate a signature. This could be in the park, in a club, festival or in a scenario where there was a great event. This will draw people to you, and others attending the event. The difference between this and a book signing for his books is that its editorial then sell at the event and maintain profits. Be creative. You can even have a signature on a baby shower, birthday party or family gathering. Are you sure to sell tons of books. Not only are you totally in control, but will feel more comfortable in the signing of a place of their choice. These are also the most fun. Remember to advertise your event. Place an ad in the local newspaper online and promote people in your area. The possibilities are endless.

Last but not least, the best option would be:

Virtual Guestbook

It is speculated that VBTs sell more books than a tour regular data ever could. It reaches more than a hearing because he is doing everything online. Some authors set their own VBTs but if you are not familiar with the concept and want to skip the hard work, then hire a company to work with you. They will do all the work and all you have to do is appear on blogs and sites. You'll do interviews, podcasts, blogs and more guests. It all depends on you. VBTs allow authors to promote the comfort of your own home and eventually more convenient. Think you have a promotional tour in his bathrobe and slippers. Sounds good to me. You'll be more traffic to your website, sell more books and meet fans during a VBT more than you can online. The best thing is that his trip is still visible forever. Its appearance is maintained sites provided they remain online for your trip is archived, and will be visited by the time of site visitors and over again. Of course, this means that the long-term exposure sales.

We've all had bad experiences with book signings. If you're like me then you're completely turned off by them. I do not think making more signings in the store, but luckily there are so many options available. Promotion of the book is easier these days than ever. Authors should make full and only then may receive large rewards that come along with that.

Remember to think outside the box. Creativity is needed to effectively promote and enjoy it.
